How do you figure out why you are fat?

I want to lose weight & the universal beginning of most weight loss plans is you have to figure out why you are fat to begin with. I really do think I just like to eat fattening food but apparently that‘s not the root of the problem. How do I figure this out & where do I begin?

I think everyone likes one fattening food or another so you’re right that isn’t the root of your problem.
1. How overweight are you and what is your body fat index
2. How much exercise do you get daily
3. Look at a listing of the good groups and how much of each you should have daily
4. Do you eat correctly and well balanced
5. How often do you eat and how much at a sitting?
6. For 1 week keep a diary of what food/how much/when
you eat. Compare this to how you answered the above.
Were you correct?

Once you have all these elements then you can start a weight loss program. Sometimes, however, the weight loss program is really a “right eating” program . Remember too that some people actually need to eat more to loose weight. You could actually intake too small an amount of food. The body needs a certain balance of all your food groups so if you are excluding some of them you might be actually hindering your body efficiently burning food and actual weight loss.

what are some good quick diets to lose weight?

I dont want anything to do with pills or stupid “as seen on tv” ideas. I also dont want any excercise suggestions because thats a given in a weight loss plan.

Maricela answers:

I think it depends on your body type– if you are carb intolerant or calorie intolerant. For me, I am carb intolerant and when I lower my carb intake, I can lose 10-15 lbs in a month the first month. It slows quickly after the first month. Keep in mind, I am also doing proper exercise with cardio and strength training while lowering my carbs. And I am not completely cutting out carbs, just lowering (no soda, easy on the fruit, no candy, cake ect). But if I do not keep at it, I gain it back pretty easily as well. Also, do not starve yourself. Eat 5-6 small meals all day instead of one or two meals. Eating small meals spread throughout the day helps your body to know it wont be starving and keeps that metabolism up.

How often should interval training be done?

I recently “plateaued” in my weight loss plan so I incorprating interval training. If I run about 6 days a week, how many of those workouts should be interval training?

Maricela answers:

Well it depends on the type of interval training that you are doing. If its running intervals, you can do them as often as you like. What you do have to watch for is this….Interval training is a GREAT way to burn lots of calories, but they are designed to sustain and build muscle. So if you are doing hardcore interval workouts you could be gaining some muscle weight little by little.

But running intervals should be okay, everyone can have nice muscular toned legs.

So you can do your interval training 3-4 times a week. On your off days take it easy, as your body’s healing time is just as important as your work out…good luck

What does the Bible say about weight loss and self image?


I am starting a new weight loss plan and I was wondering if there is someplace in the Bible that talks about weight loss and how a persons self image should be. I know gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, but that is about all I can remember right now

I like the 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 in the KJV
“Know ye not that your body is a temple of the holy ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” It makes me remember my worth and to stay virtuous.

I would like to know what are some good ways to help people lose weight?

For instance, if you were to create a weight loss program what would be something that you would make sure to emphasis or implement?

The most critical aspect of a weight loss program is selecting foods that are nutritionally rich and lower in calories.

I lost 80 pounds by simply changing to a low-fat whole plant based diet as described by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. I do exercise, but I learned through experience that diet is far more important than the level of activity. That being said, I do exercise moderately for about one hour each day. Weight training is also a good way to build muscle rather than fat. The volume of tissue created with the same number of calories is seven times more for fat than muscle. I’d rather have an additional pound of muscle rather than seven pounds of fat.

I also learned that maintaining a healthy weight is a lifestyle change. You don’t keep weight off by joining Weight Watchers for one year. Most victims of commercial weight loss programs learn that they cannot keep the weight off for more than about a year or two. Atkins and calorie restricted diets also do not work for the vast majority of people. (Kolata)
