Your Questions About Teenage Weight Loss Plan For Girls

Donald asks…

Weight loss for teenage girl with Lyme?

I’m 5’0″ and weigh about 145 pounds. I’m also really disproportionate — my stomach, waist, and thighs is where all the fat is. My arms, face, calves, etc are thin enough. I have Lyme disease, so I can’t exactly exercise, because I’m in pain a lot of the time. Also, a lot of the medications I’m on are causing me trouble when it comes to weight loss.

I know that’s a really complicated question, but I would really like to be about 100-110 pounds by May/June.

Could someone help me?

Maricela answers:

Ask your doctor for a referal to a nutritionist. They can give you a healthy food plan. They may even recomend food/supplements to help your Lyme symptoms.

Also, talk to your doctor/rheumatologist about what you can and can’t do. Low impact aerobis can help you loose weight: try swimming, biking, or Pilates. Resistance training will help you build muscle.

When I had Lyme, I found working out made me feel WAY better.

P.S. There’s not much you can do about being “pear shaped”. You’ll probably always be that way. Excercising and watching what you eat can help you be a toned, fit, healthy pear!

What are some weight loss tips for teen girls?

I’m an overweight teenage girl. I do what everyone says to do. I drink a lot of water. I eliminate junk food. I eat mostly vegetables, etc. I also play volleyball and I do track. My school also has an intense PE program that I’m participating in. I’m not losing any weight.

Maricela answers:

Losing 10 lbs a month is a good and safe target. Any faster weight loss is likely to be temporary only and in most cases you regain it all.

Running, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, push ups, sit ups, squats, brisk walking and power walking all help for weight loss but dieting helps more.

One of the healthiest weight loss diets is the DASH diet.

The healthy DASH diet can help you lose weight safely and effectively, lower your cholesterol and lower your blood pressure.

It is based on an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, and low-fat or non-fat dairy, with whole grains. It is a high fiber, low to moderate fat diet, and is rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Who else is sick of teenagers posting weight questions?

Every time I log in here, I see some insecure teenage girl posting “Trying to lose weight help” or “weight loss plan help” or “lose weight before school starts” or “I’m 13 is this normal?” Who else is disturbed by this? Are there really that many girls out there insecure about their weight? Should we answer these questions?

Maricela answers:

Pretty well all teenage girls are obsessed with their weight and their looks, so yes there are that many.

The worst ones is when they ask, “I’m 5 foot 7 and I weight 82 pounds, I think I’m fat am I?”

And then some other idiot girl will go, “No, I’m 5 foot 9 and I weight 78 pounds and I’m a model” and then she gets best answer.

They only listen to what they want to hear, so if you can live with them ignoring you, then go ahead and answer them.

How to lose weight for a teenage girl?

Ok, I’m SO sick of my body. I’m 14 years old, I am 161cm tall and I weigh 61kg. PLEASE tell me how to lose weight. My goal is to be 54kg. I have a fit and toned body but I’m still chubby and I want to get rid of my fat. Just letting you know: I hate exercising. Any fun exercising ideas? Please. I need to exercise but I don’t know any fun ways. I exercise for 3 days then I get over it so quickly. And I need diet tips as well. I already don’t eat after 5pm. Nothing. Is there anything else I can do? Btw, I also go for 20 minute walks almost everyday, but it’s definitely not enough. So I’m mainly focused on the exercise bit. Please give me tips. Thanks, guys 🙂

Diet and exercise or Portion Control and exercise?

I am a teenage girl, this summer i want to lose 10 or more pounds, i really want to try… So i know eating right and exercise but would i have to go on a diet, or better control portions with added fruits and veggies?

Also if anyone has a good workout they’d like to share?

Maricela answers:

Calories are calories. If you’re eating less you need to make them count, which means eating better. There are no gimmicks. Just eat good food, and count your calories while you’re at it. My main reference is the canada food guide.

Sweat is sweat. You must sweat, i.e. Aerobic exercise. I use an exercise bike (45 minutes, 5 times a week), followed by floor exercise and stretching. You have to work: if you have enough left to read a book, watch tv or text your friends, you’re not working hard enough.

Be realistic. I discussed my weight loss plans with my doctor (she was very enthusiastic), and she advised me on a good goal weight, considering my height, my physique and my age. It’s not the least i’ve weighed at my adult height, but i had other problems when i was 19… 🙁

monitor your progress. I weigh myself once a week (sunday morning), and have a spreadsheet of my weight loss. I’ve lost 145 pounds over the last year and a half. I’m delighted, my doctor is thrilled, my sisters are jealous. 🙂
