Michael asks…

Quick ways for a teenage girl to lose weight?

I want to lose 54 pounds but i dont want to wait a year to get my results. Whats a quick way to lose weight quickly? Thank you!

Maricela answers:

Losing 10 lbs a month is a good and safe target. Any faster weight loss is likely to be temporary only and in most cases you regain it all.

Running, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, push ups, sit ups, squats, brisk walking and power walking all help for weight loss but dieting helps more.

One of the healthiest weight loss diets is the DASH diet.

The healthy DASH diet can help you lose weight safely and effectively, lower your cholesterol and lower your blood pressure.

It is based on an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, and low-fat or non-fat dairy, with whole grains. It is a high fiber, low to moderate fat diet, and is rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

You can see further details in a web search for “dash diet” + “lose weight”.

Whats the best way to get rid of cellulite?

I’m a teenage girl, I’m already extremely active, I’m a dancer, but I have cellulite on my thighs. How do I get rid of it? I’m not overweight. I’m 5’5 and 135 pounds, so why do I have it still?

Maricela answers:

Here’s the sad truth about cellulite. Cellulite is not fat, it’s a genetic-based condition and once you have it, you will probably have it for life. However, because cellulite involves fat, you may be able to reduce the prominence of it by burning fat. Unfortunately, cellulite seems to present in those areas where fat tends to leave last…buttocks and thighs. So, reducing the cellulite effect will, for most people, require burning excess fat to a very low body fat percent….something which usually means a serious lifestyle change and commitment to proper eating habits for life with no guarantees.

Exercise won’t help beyond burning a few more calories so plan your workouts around fitness goals such as excellence in a sport or occupation, strength, endurance, flexibility, systemic fitness, general health and well being, body sculpting, body awareness, coordination, poise and comportment, balance, body composition, mental acuity, educational experience, etc. Don’t exercise with the hope it will help make cellulite disappear.

Here’s an excerpt from an article from the US National Institute of Health, the people your doctor listen to.

“A great deal of money is spent by people who want to rid themselves of cellulite, but no amount of weight loss, exercise, massages, wraps, creams, supplements, or surgery has proven to effectively eliminate it once you have it. Liposuction, for instance, is not recommended for cellulite, and may even make it look worse.”

Sandra asks…

How many calories per day for a teenage girl to lose weight?

How many calories a day would a teenage girl need to eat to lose weight?

Current…
Age: 14
Weight: 93 lbs
Height: 4’11
Activity Level: Light/Moderate

It’s rather difficult to compute, as it is such a short height. Thanks.

Maricela answers:

I found this on this website. There are more tips and info.

1. If what you are eating has less than 1 carb, count it as 1 carb just to be sure.

2. Totally avoid caffine at least for the first two weeks on the program.

3. Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of plain water or seltzer daily.

4. Don’t weigh yourself more than once a week

5. Take starting measurements as well as weight – sometimes you’ll lose inches before pounds

6. Avoid any type of “low carb” sweetener for the first two weeks

7. Don’t compare your loss to someone else’s – this is a YMMV thing (your milage may vary)

8. Stalls are common around the third week so don’t panic

9. If you follow your plan to the T and don’t lose, consider Candida as a possibility and avoid vinegar, cheese, mushrooms and any other fermented food

10. Have bloodwork done before starting so you have a comparison

11. Cholesterol can be elevated in the first few weeks til your body adjusts – make sure your doctor knows that you’re doing low carb and when you started

12. Don’t blame the diet if you don’t read your plan book — blame the diet if you don’t read the labels — Don’t blame the diet if you don’t follow the diet

Weight loss help for a teenage vegetarian?

I’m a fifteen year old girl and I am looking to lose fifteen pounds. I am about 5’4. I’d like to lose it within the next two months. I am also a vegetarian. As far as exercise goes, I am currently running for 30-40 minutes five times a week. I am mostly concerned about my diet. Any suggestions for diet plans?

Maricela answers:

Changing your diet to only healthy foods is the best thing you can do and will ensure you will lose weight if combine with walking everyday especially.

You can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, grains, & yogurt..2. Drink only water, juice, & milk..3. Walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer ((Very cheap)) and a rice cooker as makes it very easy to prepare healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil and pepper, spices on top of steamed vegeatables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are healthy too.)

How can I lose weight easy in time for school?

Im 14 and I weigh 150, Im 5’7 and I need to lose the weight for the volleyball team. I dont care what it is, but I need some suggestions, no eat healthy and exercise because Im already doing that, I dont care if its unhealthy but I need some ideas. I wanna lose about 20 pounds

Maricela answers:

I answered another question like this earlier, so I’m just going to copy/paste it, ok? Alright this is what I said:
Don’t use supplements for weight loss. Don’t join a program either, trust me it’s a wast of money. Here is the healthiest and safest and EASIEST way to lose weight. Simply eat 6 small portions of food a day, or 3 good sized meals with a healthy snack between them, NEVER STARVE YOURSELF. Eventually you WILL lose weight, also a casual walk around the neighborhood would help some. People don’t realize how stupid all these weight loss methods are, and how dangerous they can be! Google healthy meals, and when temptation comes remind yourself why you want to be healthy and how much dissatisfaction comes from eating junk, and always ask yourself; “Am I eating because I’m hungry? Or because I’m stressed or bored?” Trust me I have been through the same exact thing!
Oh I need to tell you one more thing (just between us teenage girls) You are perfect just the way you are, no matter what the media or your friends say you should be, don’t think unhealthy thoughts, be strong, you are perfect.
Hope this helped~
