Your Questions About Losing Weight In College

Helen asks…

How to lose weight while in a college hall?

I live in a college dorm, where I get meals from my hall. The food is often full of carbohydrates, and we don’t have too many healthy, fresh options of fruit. I don’t have the money to buy any food for myself, and the snacks we have are toast and milk. I literally have no time to exercise, though I do walk to my lectures and classes, so I do get my 30 minutes a day of brisk walking. How do I lose weight here on my set meal plan and limited free time?

Maricela answers:

I like to do these while i’m doing other things: http://www.seventeen.com/health/tips/no-workout-workouts?click=main_sr

Try to exercise in small intervals during the day, drink lots of water and eat until you’re full not stuffed.
Also eating a meal about the size of your fist every hour or two is better than meals but I understand if your lunch is hot and you can’t snack it out 🙂 Maybe you could fast walk to your classes or run so that you can get there early and maybe do a few jumping jacks outside! Hope I helped!

What can my mom do to motivate her to lose weight?

I live far away from her and her and I are trying to lose weight together. I go to college and I am going to attend a Wellness Body Image Group, but she does not know what to do to motivate her. Phone calls are not enough. She needs some kind of support system that is close. We don’t want to do weight watchers or any fad diet. We are going to do plain old eat right and exercising. But we each need something more.

Maricela answers:

Motivation is mis-understood. You dont get motivated first. You take action and then it motivates you. Follow a simular plan right away. Once you have started the action you will become more motivated.

Drink lots of water, do cardio workouts about 20-30 mins a day, eat small meals and snacks every 2-3 hrs, that a good multi vitamin-mineral supplement.

Reasons: Good hydration helps flush your bod, cardio work outs raise heart rate and burns calories, (want a boost? Do your 10-15 cardio just before bed, it will keep burning calories a couple hours longer, your metabolism slows as you sleep this will give you more burn time per day, Food every 2-3 hours stop the bodys reaction to starve syndome which if you go to long without a meal your metabolism slows to store energy, if frequent snacks it keep metabolism higher, more burn time, Nutri supplements maxing vitamins and minerals will help your body. This way no great changes need to happen in your eatting habits just try to lower or stop the junk food. This will keep you burning calories the most of the day. Take every opportunity to excersize, take stairs, park further away in parking lots, avoid convience, look for the most active thing you can do. Good luck, you can do it…..

Register with calorie counter, then you can find your ideal calories intake per day. Keep healthy snack with you so you can nibble and not defeat your goals.

How can a college student lose weight?

I’m in college and I want to lose weight. I’ve been walking to classes and I have lost some weight. But what things should I eat? Should I do more than just walking? I plan on walking around campus when I’m done with my classes.

Maricela answers:

Just like anyone else does in college or not, consume less calories by eating healthy and exercise more.

Avoid any white bread products, fats like butter and oil, mayo. No fried foods. No sugar sodas, juices or snacks. Limit pasta products unless you use whole wheat pasta. Only eat 100% wheat bread products not just wheat or wheat looking breads. Limit cheese and use reduced fat cheeses when you do have it.

Exercise at the least 3 days a week for 45 minutes where you are short of breath enough that its a difficult to talk. I walk on the treadmil 7 days a week 40 minutes 3.7 speed 7.0 incline to burn 469 calories each day.

You can eat snacks just lower calorie ones. I like to have a Smart Ones sundae every week. I have a fudsicle every day, baked cheetos, 100 calorie pack cookies or hostess cakes.

This site is free. You can use their diet or turn it off and enter your own food. They give you a plan and when you reach your calorie, fat, carb etc limits you are done eating and stay within that, exercise and you will lose weight. I am an 18 year old woman and 5’9″. I weigh 180 pounds. I have been chubby my entire life the lowest I’ve ever been is 160. I want to lose 40 pounds before I go off to college. I have been eating healthy and exercising. I’ve been losing weight. However, I would like your opinions on what the best way you’ve lost weight quickly. Please include sucess stories, amont loss etc.. so I can seperate scam from truth

Maricela answers:

Fastest way of losing weight is combining diet and exercise. You should eat less and healthy and exercise 4-5 days a week. Walking and running are good supporters.
Eat less but often(every 3 hours). This makes you eat 5-6 smaller meals and it is the best choice. By this way your metabolism speeds up and burn more calories and you stop your appetite.
Drink green tea to speed up your metabolism.
Drink 8-10 glasses of water each day. Water is a natural appetite suppressant.
Exercise is the best way to burn fat and get in shape.
Good luck:)
