Helen asks…

How long does it really take to lose the weight gained during pregnancy?

I just had my baby boy 3 1/2 weeks ago and I’m wondering how long it will take to lose the weight I gained during pregnancy. I gained a total of 37lbs and so far have lost 20lbs. I was losing weight for the first week after giving birth, but then I’ve stayed the same weight for the last 2 weeks and still have 17lbs to go! It’s so frustrating!!! I’ve been walking a mile several times a week and eating healthy so I don’t understand why no more weight is coming off. Is this normal? And will the weight eventually fall off with more time or am I stuck at this new weight? Need some answers please 🙂

Maricela answers:

It’s normal, give it time. It took 9 months to gain that 37lbs, it’ll take more than one month to loose it. And no matter how you gained that weight, it takes more than two weeks to loose 17lbs in a healthy way (and keep it off). Most of that 20lbs that you lost the first week was the baby, amniotic fluid, placenta, and retained water weight. I had my second baby 9 weeks ago and I still have at least 10 more pounds to go before I’m back at my pre-pregnancy weight and none of my pre-pregnancy pants fit yet. With my first baby, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight and clothes by the time he was six months old. I gained about the same amount of weight during both of my pregnancies that you did. So, keep exercising and eating healthy and try to be patient.

Donald asks…

Is it weird that i lost weight during my pregnancy and gained weight after pregnancy?

I was walking for 2 hours most days when i was pregnant and eating healthy, but now 9 weeks after my son is born i have gained 6 kilos because i’ve been eating so unhealthy and hardly moving. It’s usually the other way around for most people, they gain weight during pregnancy because of eating unhealthy and barely moving, and then lose after pregnancy because of being healthy and exercising trying to lose the weight.

Maricela answers:

Not weird because you were more active and taking in less calories.Eat healthily and walk more, especially important if you are breastfeeding.

Mandy asks…

Why did I lose so much weight after pregnancy?

Before I got pregnant I weighed around 100-105 pounds, which is reasonable because I am barely 5 feet tall. During pregnancy I reached up to 135 pounds. After I gave birth to my son, I have been rapidly losing weight, I barely have an appetite and I find myself very tired most of the day. My son just turned 7 months old and I am currently 85-90 pounds. Is this something I should be worried about?

Maricela answers:

As any new mother, you should be/should have been seeing your doctor somewhat regularily after giving birth. It is essential that you maintain your health. You now have someone else to care for and you are not going to be able to if you are sick, or completely exhausted. Start taking a multi-vitamin and arrange a meal plan. If you make three meals a day of pre-planned food choices, you are eventually going to have an appetite and sit down and eat. Make a habit of it, but seriously, you should be seeing a doctor. This could just be completely normal for you and you’re worrying over nothing.

Sandy asks…

What’s the best way to lose weight after pregnancy?

I weighed 135lbs prior to pregnancy. Then I gained 70lbs during pregnancy. I lost 35 lbs in the first month. It has been 3 months and I cannot seem to lose anymore weight and I am still breastfeeding. Will I ever get back to my original size or do I have to start exercising?

Maricela answers:

Since I started to work out I was looking for a good weight loss product. I was on a diet but I felt that I needed a little “help” so I decided to try this great product and I had fantastic results. You can check their website at , they give you a free trial and you only pay $4.95 shipping and handling.
