Steven asks…

How many of you gained weight during your first couple months and how many lost weight?

I know a lot of women have lost weight during the first couple of months of pregnancy due to nausea, etc. How many people gained weight?

Maricela answers:

I gained a pound or two, then didn’t gain or lose anything until about 16 or 17 weeks, Everyone is different.

Jenny asks…

How to stay slim during pregnancy?

So I’ve recently found out that I’m pregnant, which is great after losing 70 lbs it’s a little daunting to think I have to lose it again. I know it’s not actually possible to not gain weight during pregnancy but I’m looking for any methods that will help me stay as slim as possible during pregnancy, and help stay away from common problems like extra skin and cellulite. Thank you in advance!

Maricela answers:

First off I’d like to say congratulations! As a mother of three I’m definitely familiar with the task of weight loss after pregnancy. After my first baby I gained over 37 lbs, and my second baby added another 42 lbs onto that. It took me almost 5 years to shred all of the weight but I was definitely faced with a lot of extra skin.

So with my third baby I really wanted to do it right, so I searched the internet for the best ways to keep off the weight. And honestly all I really found were the basics, eat well and exercise. Till I ran into pregnancy without pounds (you can find it here I’ll be straight up and tell you it cost me around $40(and probably saved me hundreds). I don’t want to give to much away but there are a number of secrets included in this eBook:

• How to avoid gaining weight in all the WRONG places… Hint – it’s in the body type and Yes you can do something about it
• Which specific core strengthening exercises will make your labor easier
• How to speed up your post-partum weight loss (easily!)
• 10 steps to stop the cellulite invasion
• What to eat to reduce food cravings, puffy face and varicose veins
• 10 Tips for fighting pregnancy acne
• A key dietary supplement that WILL reduce your appetite, elevate your mood and decrease your cravings (this one is HUGE!)
• 5 proven ways to PREVENT sagging breast

Yeah, A LOT of information. So did it work? Heck yeah it did, the best $40 I’ve EVER spent. Not only did I keep the weight off DURING pregnancy but I didn’t see ANY increases in excess skin whatsoever. After post-partum I had gained only a few extra lbs which I shredded with in couple weeks using the guides methods.

Trust me if you really want to keep the weight off and all of the other nasty things that comes with pregnancy, you should consider making this small investment.

Daniel asks…

Why have I gained so much weight during pregnancy?

I have gained 80 pounds so far and i still have a month to go.I’ve had 2 diabetes test and one was positive one was negative.I’ve heard gestational diabetes can make you gain alot of weight during pregnancy. Will the weight go away when im not pregnant anymore? Also my diet is relatively healthy.

Maricela answers:

A lot of time if you were underweight/skinny before pregnancy, you gain a lot more weight during pregnancy. See if your doctor will give you another gestational diabetes test, it sounds like that may be it. It wouldn’t hurt to just follow a low glycemic index diet for the next month.
I’m sure you will lose the weight quickly after the baby comes. Breast feeding also helps you lose weight quicker.
Good luck!!

John asks…

HOW can I actually LOSE WEIGHT healthfully while pregnant? I would like to know if there is a way to actually?

be skinnier at the end of it all, while not sacrificing (obviously) the health of my baby?
My mother said she lost weight during the pregnancy just by walking.
Just to clarify, I know I won’t look skinnier DURING the pregnancy.. I mean AFTER.

THANK YOU for any helpful tips that you may have.. we appreciate it!
Good Luck Angie (I know it will happen for you) and thank you everyone for all of the great responses.. I am just going to try to eat really healthily and walk a lot.

Maricela answers:

Walking and eating healthy foods is about the only thing you can do when you’re pregnant. You can get on the treadmill, but it’s not suggested that you run past 5 months.

Eat right, rest well, and exercise, and you should at least have an easier time losing the weight (the more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat. Unfortunately, weight lifting is not advisable when you’re pregnant).

The answerer above me is TOTALLY wrong. Dieting does NOT cause Down Syndrome. A chromosomial abnormality causes Down Syndrome. Grrrr.

Linda asks…

I currently weigh 230lbs and i think i maybe pregnant should i lose weight while I’m pregnant?

not sure if i am pregnant but if i am i would like to know it is okay.
would it be safe to lose weight during the pregnancy or worry about it after the birth?

Maricela answers:

Most doctors do not recommend that you lose weight when you are pregnant. You can start eating a healthy diet and you only need to eat about 500 extra calories per day when you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor and he or she can give you advise and a diet and exercise plan to follow.
