Your Questions About Losing Weight During Pregnancy

Sandra asks…

Is it possible to lose weight during your first trimester?

I am not sure if this is true or not, and it certainly wasn’t for me during my first pregnancy, but I read in a pregnancy magazine that it is possible for women to lose weight during their first trimester.

Has anyone else ever experienced this or known someone to? If so, did it happen naturally or through healthy diet and moderate exercise?

Maricela answers:

I think the only time you would lose weight in the first trimester is if you have really bad morning sickness. I’m in the same boat as you — I certainly didn’t lose any weight during the first trimester either!

Daniel asks…

Has anyone lost weight during pregnancy?

This is my 3rd pregnancy
In my 1st pregnancy i went 63 kilos to 88 kilos (baby was born at 39 weeks)
my 2nd pregnancy i went from 85 kilos to 90 kilos (miscarried at 13 weeks)
My 3rd pregnancy (im now 13 weeks) i started off at 92 kilos and im now 85 kilos.

Im just wondering if anyone else has lost weight during pregnancy and is it normal?

Maricela answers:

Weight loss during pregnancy is considered common. I went from (we dont do kilos but lbs) i was 125lbs before and uring i gained maybe 3lbs my whole pregnancy but after i had my daughter i dropped down to 105lbs in less than a week. Midwife told me it’s because any excess weight is being turned into nutrients for the baby. Same basic concept as when a bear hybernates it’s body turns all the stored fat into nutrients. You’re body is probably just burning it faster than the baby is growing. As long as you’re pregnancy is commencing normally and the baby seems healthy i would not be so concerned. Discuss it with your doctor just to be sure but it’s not really something to stress out about.

Thomas asks…

How can i get a slim body after my pregnancy?

I want to be slim like a model after having a baby because i lost too much weight during pregnancy. I’m 20 years old, my height is 4 feet, 10 inches. My weight is 75 kg.
I can’t do exercise daily. Is there any other way to get a slim body? Is there anyone who can give me a diet plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner because i’m so worried about my weight.

Maricela answers:

You are young so u can do it much more easily. I’d eat egg/turkey sausage and juice for breakfast or fruit; cheese stick/apple and PB for snack; salad/chicken lunch and soup or cereal for dinner.

Chris asks…

I have already lost 21lbs through a healthy eating group and im 18 wks pregnant is it safe to continue ?

I was 14stone 5lbs wen I started now I am 12 stone 12lbs, I lost most of this weight as I couldn’t eat or drink due to morning sickness. Now my appetite is kinda returning slowly but surely lol, I am scared of putting it on, Id like to keep losing weight responsibly during my pregnancy but I’m not sure if this is possible or safe ! Even though its through a healthy eating program !

Maricela answers:

You should not worry about losing weight during a pregnancy, Eat healthy and concentrate on the baby, worry about losing weight after the baby is born.

William asks…

What are some good exercises for pregnant woman?

Beside walking I want to know something safe….also what will the exercise do for me? Im not trying to lose weight during pregnancy but can i become toned?

Maricela answers:

You already have some wonderful answers there, but I will throw in my two cents worth.
In my day ( I am 64 now) we kept on with our work as long as we safely could. In my case that meant tending 1 to 6 children, some farm animals, harvesting and canning, garden work, cooking for an army and keeping up the housework and sometimes painting boats . My husband was a boat builder..and when not pregnant ( seldom happened LOL) I was his finish worker.
The two exercises that all we preggers ladies tried to add were swimming ( already suggested) and one that may have evolved into the “Kregger” (sp?)
We crawled on our hands and knees , trying to keep our tums sorta sucked in. We were told that exercised all the muscles one needed for late prenancy and birth.
We did this crawling thing the entire pregnancy.
It seemed to be effective because all of us who crawled around regularly had fairly quick labors and good deliveries.
