What is better for loosing weight yoga or Pilates?

I have done some bickrem hot yoga but now its summer i get too hot. I wasnt the best at yoga, so would anyone recomend pilates?

Pilates is definitely better if weight loss is your goal. Pilates is strength training as well as flexibility and balance, whereas yoga is more geared towards flexibility and relaxation. In Pilates you’ll build muscle mass all over your body, even in places you didn’t know muscles existed. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn and the more pounds you’ll drop. Pilates is an amazing workout! Go for it!

Which Wii game should I buy to help me lose weight?

I am finally buying a Wii and I really want a game that is going to help me lose some weight. There are so many different types of weight loss games, I’m not sure which is the best. I’m not looking for yoga/pilates, I want to actually lose weight. Can anyone help?

Well…there are many fitness games that are out for the wii,
but for me, i highly recommend EA active, it has it’s sequel out right now. Even though i’m satisfied with the 1st one, i’m really looking forward on buying the sequel..

I could really assure you that you will feel the intensity in this game than many others..
You can really feel your calories burning and you can even see how many calories you have already burned in the game, while playing it, you can see a calorie burn counter which makes you more motivated. You will have a calendar which shows you the days you have played and how many calories you have burned that day.

The controls are very responsive and really feels good,
it’s fun and you won’t get bored by playing it..

What is the difference between yoga, yogilates, and pilaties?

I am interested in signed up for a class at my gym but I don’t know what the difference between them are. I’m looking to drop around 15 pounds. Which would be best for weight loss and what do each or them consist of.
I don’t know if this matters but I ‘m a 14 year old girl who goes to the gym regularly.

Yoga is an ancient system of training the mind, body, and spirit. The primary form of yoga training is meditation, which trains the mind to let go of distraction and helps you relax. But what is most practiced in gyms is the postures or asanas. This physical practice is called hatha yoga, and there are over 500 different poses. There are also different styles of the practice, including Vinyasa, Iyengar, Astanga, Power Yoga, Kripalu, Anusaura, Bikram, etc. Since you are new to yoga, you might want to check out some different books on yoga and learn about them before you take a class. One thing that is consistent are the names of the poses, so when you are doing Warrior One, it is pretty much the same in any class. Be aware that Bikram only has 24 poses and is done in a heated room up to 120 degrees. For most teens, this is too intense, and I would recommend a gentler form of yoga to start. Expect to work on a mat and to do both seated and standing exercises that emphasize flexibility and balance. Average length of a yoga class is 75 minutes.
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates, a German fitness guru, who came to the New York in the 1920s. He developed his system of training based on his experience as a circus performer, boxer, and gymnast, and also from years of working with people who came to him with muscular imbalances or injuries. The group classes in Pilates may vary due to the lack of any consistent standards in the certification of instructors, but usually they are based on the 34 mat exercises Joseph wrote about in is book “Contrology”. Many of these exercises are too advanced for the average person, so modifications and variations in the exercises have been added to most matwork classes. The key thing about Pilates is that you are really focusing on your core muscles, the ones that stabilize you, and your alignment. This is very important for learning how to hold your body correctly and move with greater efficiency. Most of the exercises are done on the floor on a mat. Sometimes, you may use a few props like a Magic Circle or light dumbells. Average length of a Pilates mat class is 60 minutes.
Yogilates is a trademarked system created in 1997 by certified Pilates instructor and yoga veteran Jonathan Urla. If you would like the best of both worlds, this might work for you. You still get the focus on the hatha practice of the yoga postures, blended with the core strength and stability of Pilates technique. Most Yogilates classes are also done with music and you get to do some dance-like combination movements that develop grace and power and burn more calories than a typical yoga or pilates class. One caveat, there are not that many certified Yogilates instructors in the country. Check the website for a list of instructors I wouldn’t take a class from someone who isn’t certified in Yogilates as it might be dangerous.

How do i incorporate weight training with my cardio training?

I have been using cardio equipment and exercise DVD’s for the past 8 months and have lost a total of 65 pounds. Two months have gone by and i am still doing the same type of workout but have peaked and have only lost 5 pounds in those two months. I have heard that introducing a weight program accelerates the weight loss. I do the cardio and DVD’s 5 days a week for an hour a day. I want to know what is the best way to get started with the weight training and how I should break down the weekly routine. I have bought my own weight set and bench with all of the plates and dumbbells. Any and all serious answers would be appreciated.

Weight training is certainly a good thing to incorporate into your regime to get over a weight loss plateau. I would suggest that you meet with a trainer for a weight program specific to your goals, especially if you haven’t done any weight training. Ideally you should bring the trainer into your home so he/she can see your new equipment. If meeting with a trainer is out of the question, I suggest you read up on proper form before you start. You can do more damage than good if you don’t use the proper technique. Especially if you’re using free weights (i.e. Dumbells). The easiest way to start a weight lifting program is to use machines designed to force the proper form (such as Hammerstrength and Nautillus).

Assuming you know the proper form and function based on your new equipment, you should shape your routine around your goals. If weight loss is your primary goal then you’re going to want to incorporate light weights and a high number of repetitions (or “reps”). For example, if you’re doing squats, you should set up a light weight (which varies by sex, fit level and other factors) and do three sets of fifteen to twenty reps. You should feel “weak” but you should not go to the point of muscle failure.

The only other recommendation I have for you is to try pilates or yoga as well. I have a friend who hit a weight loss plateau and then lost an additional 30 lbs by incorporating pilates into her workout. It is very low impact but surprisingly difficult.

Is this good exercise for a underweight person?

Hey I’m currently 5’1 and 80 pounds.

I walk everyday for 1 hour
Swim for 30 minutes on Saturday and sunday

I am also planning to go on a diet that will help me gain weight,
try tai chi, yoga, pilates and also try lifting weights (I have 5 pound dumbbells).

Is this good?

Yes or no? And please tell me why.

Exercise is good for EVERYBODY, even underweight people. People don’t seem to understand that exercise isn’t just for weight loss…it’s for muscle tone, keeps your heart healthy, etc. If you lift light weights, it’ll probably make you gain weight, but it’ll be healthy weight…muscle.

You need to go on a healthy high fat and protein diet. Eat lots of lean meat, bread, nuts, etc. Peanut butter sandwiches are a GREAT way to gain weight in a healthy way.
